A warm welcome Awaiting you at Castle Hohenwerfen

Castle Hohenwerfen is one of the most popular excursion destinations for families in the entire province of Salzburg. And not without reason, because it takes visitors on a journey back in time to the Middle Ages: from the creepy torture chamber, to the bell tower with a beautiful view, to the breathtaking bird-of-prey shows from the Landesfalkenhof.

The Castle Tour

A guided tour takes you from the castle chapel to the torture chamber and up to the bell tower, from where you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the mountains of the Salzburger Pongau region. The tour of the castle is deliberately designed to be family-friendly. Instead of dry historical facts, history is conveyed here in a lively, exciting and vivid way. For children, there is also a separate audio guide and a puzzle quest through the castle.

The fine art of falconry

A highlight of your visit will undoubtedly be the bird-of-prey show. Two or three times a day, you can watch the majestic falcons, eagles and vultures of the fortress in flight. You will quickly understand why falconry is still a high art that requires a lot of intuition, skill and empathy. If you want to learn more about this skill, be sure to visit the falconry museum.

Of witches and wizards

One of the absolute highlights of any visit to the castle is the special exhibition "Myth of Jackl - sorcerors & witches in Salzburg." On four levels of the historic armory, visitors are immersed in the world of witches and sorcerers - from the events surrounding the Salzburg witchcraft trials to current witch cults around the world. The exhibition fascinates and captivates with authentic and occasionally creepy exhibits, multimedia installations and fairytale-like figures.
