Excursions with Babies and Small Children in Salzburg City and Salzburger Land
SALZBURGER FREILICHTMUSEUM
Splashing about in the playground, exploring an old farmhouse, or hunting for frogs along the edge of the pond: At the Salzburg Open-Air Museum, you quickly realize that you don’t need modern gadgets in order for the kids to have an unforgettable day. An absolute highlight (not just for children) is the vintage train that runs between the different Salzburg “regions” on the museum grounds. Our tip if you are using a stroller: Ride the train from the Flachgau station next to the main entrance to the slightly more elevated Lungau halt, then enjoy a very leisurely, gently downhill stroll through the museum grounds. Of course, a stop at the playground next to the Salettl restaurant is an absolute must. Even for kids who might be venturing out on pushbikes for the very first time, the wide gravel paths inside the museum are absolutely ideal. And in the museum shop close to the entrance, you will find beautiful toys that promise a hint of nostalgia. Certain to awaken a few childhood memories of your own!
