A warm welcome Awaiting you at the Kaprun High Mountain Reservoirs
Experience the power of water: Surrounded by glaciers and the mighty peaks of the Hohe Tauern National Park are the Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden reservoirs. To this day, their construction in the post-war period is considered a technical masterpiece and their myth can still be experienced today. The largest inclined elevator in Europe takes you to the rear Kaprun valley, one of the most water-rich mountain regions in Austria. At over 2,000 meters above sea level, surrounded by the 3,000-meter peaks of the Hohe Tauern, there is a lot to discover.
Tour of the Dam
A look behind the scenes of VERBUND, Austria's leading electricity company, is provided on a guided tour of the dam wall, leading through the interior workings of the Moosersperre. Here you will learn interesting facts about the interaction of nature and technology, information about the history and construction, as well as the special features of the various structures.
Hiking
Around the reservoirs, marked hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty invite you to explore the area. For families or pleasure hikers, the 45 min long Herb Path down to the Fürthermoar Alm or a 20 min climb to the Höhenburg lookout point, with a summit cross and a magnificent panorama, are ideal. Experienced hikers will discover high-alpine tours to the surrounding peaks of the Hohe Tauern, such as the Griesskogel or via the Heinrich Schwaiger Haus to the Grosses Wiesbachhorn.
Via ferratas
The via ferrata area on the Höhenburg offers fixed-cable climbing routes varying in difficulty. Both beginners and advanced climbers will find their ideal challenge here. A climbing experience of a very special kind can be had at MOBO107 - a via ferrata directly on the dam wall itself. The via ferratas are accessible daily during opening hours, also by arrangement when led by a certified mountain guide.
Adventures for children
During the Riddle Rally on the children's path alongside the Mooserboden reservoir, youngsters learn about nature and technology in a playful way at various stations. Two kiosks and the mountain restaurant offer ample opportunity for a stop. At the playground right next to the restaurant, children can let off steam while parents enjoy the mountain panorama from the sun terrace. In the exhibition rooms of "Erlebniswelt Strom", young and old can immerse themselves in the fascinating world of hydroelectric power. Two interactive water exhibits also invite visitors to try their hand at damming and pumping water and understand how various turbines function.
