A warm welcome awaits you at the Salzburg Open-Air Museum
Relax, switch off, have time for yourself! There is an ideal antidote for the restlessness of today: at the foot of the legendary Untersberg mountain lies - in the middle of a protected landscape area - the 50-hectare site of the Salzburg Open-Air Museum. The natural landscape with meadows and forests, idyllic clearings, beautifully situated ponds and babbling brooks forms the setting for the largest museum in the province of Salzburg. More than one hundred original buildings from all parts of the Salzburg region have been reconstructed and furnished here, true to every detail: farms, alpine huts, a smithy, mills, electric power plant, grocery, brewery, and even a real railway.
A journey through time to the world of yesterday
Every visit to the Open-Air Museum is a journey back in time to the rural history of the province of Salzburg. Explore old buildings from six centuries and learn more about the everyday life and work of our ancestors: From old crafts, to the coexistence of humans and animals, to farming culture. A real feast for the eyes: the farm gardens cultivated by our museum gardeners, planting herbs, flowers and vegetables according to historical models. Technology enthusiasts, on the other hand, will go into raptures thanks to an interactive tractor exhibition.
The Museum Railway
A 2-kilometer-long historical narrow-gauge railway runs through the 50-hectare museum area and is in operation all day. The ride on the museum train is included in the entrance fee and gives you interesting views of the museum grounds and its buildings. You can hop on or off at three stops to your heart's content and continue your walk through the grounds. A real highlight - not only for families with children.
Games, Fun and Refreshments
From the historic skittles alley to the large playground and a natural pub area: there is an endless amount to discover for young and old here at the Salzburg Open-Air Museum. And your physical well-being is also well provided for: The cozy museum inn with its large outdoor dining area is centrally located on the museum grounds and even boasts its own train stop!
