A warm welcome This awaits you in the Salzwelten Salzburg
For centuries, the salt on which Salzburg's rulers based their wealth was mined in Salzburg's Dürrnberg. Today, an adventurous journey through the history of the white gold awaits you in the Salt Worlds: from the beginnings of the Celtic miners through the Dark Ages to modern mining. The fast-paced wooden slides and the widely ramified tunnels, which you explore in the company of an experienced guide, provide action. The raft trip across the mystical underground salt lake takes you into the dazzling world of baroque Salzburg. And along the way, you will cross the only underground state border between Austria and Germany on your tour through the mountain.
Let´s go underground
Just like real miners, visitors to the Salzwelten Salzburg take the mine train into the interior of the mountain. Thus begins a good 90-minute journey back in time, from modern salt mining to the time of the Celts.
On the trail of salt
Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, you will learn all sorts of interesting facts about the significance and history of the white gold to which the country and the city not only owe their name, but also their wealth, as you make your way through the former mining tunnels. A history lesson with a very special fun factor.
History with a fun factor
The two mine slides take you through the tunnel at lightning speed. Slower, but no less breathtaking, is the raft ride across the underground salt lake, where you are immersed in the splendor of baroque Salzburg. An unforgettable experience.
On the trail of craftsmanship
Instead of the old "Solestube", a modern show salt works was built at the Kelten.Erlebnis.Berg. Here you can experience at first hand how high-quality, hand-scooped BAD ISCHLER gourmet salt is produced from Dürrnberg's natural brine. The master pan maker provides insights into his daily work directly on site.
The SALINA Celtic Village
The reconstructed Celtic village SALINA to look at and touch gives an impression of how the Celts lived 2500 years ago. In close cooperation with the Hallein Celtic Museum, the small village on the Dürrnberg was designed according to current scientific findings and made accessible to the public. Here, life in times long past becomes tangible. The Celtic village SALINA, the new salt manufactory and a themed playground are best explored playfully with the Salzwelten APP incl. virtual adventure games and AR function.
