A warm welcome awaits you at Salzwelten Salzburg

For centuries, the salt mined on the Dürrnberg formed the foundation of Salzburg’s rulers’ wealth. Today, the world’s oldest show mine invites you on an adventurous journey through the history of the White Gold: from modern salt mining and the dark Middle Ages all the way back to its Celtic origins. Thrilling wooden slides and extensive tunnels, explored alongside an experienced guide, provide plenty of excitement. A raft ride across the mystical underground salt lake transports you into the dazzling world of Baroque Salzburg. And along the way, your tour through the mountain even takes you across the only underground state border between Austria and Germany.

Salt Manufactory

A special highlight is the Salt Manufactory, Austria’s only show saline. It is the heart of the Celtic Mountain and the production site of the Dürrnberg gourmet salt SalzZart. The master salt maker explains how delicate, crispy salt pyramids are created from natural brine through a chemical process and how they acquire their distinctive shape.
