The Pongau Holiday Region WHERE THE ADVENTURE AWAITS

IN THE PONGAU HOLIDAY REGION, YOU WILL DISCOVER THE ACTIVE SIDE OF SALZBURGER LAND: BE THAT HIKING OR MOUNTAINEERING, A VISIT TO UNIQUE ICE CAVES, OR A FAMILY ADVENTURE WITH KNIGHTS AND BIRDS OF PREY.

NATURE AND AN ARRAY OF UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES

On the far side of Pass Lueg, in the "Innergebirg" region of Salzburg, you are able to experience alpine nature in all its splendor: for example, as you hike in Grossarltal, rightfully nicknamed "the valley of mountain huts". Or in legendary Gasteinertal, the valley that once achieved fame as a spa retreat for Austrian emperors, continuing to radiate the charm and flair of the past to this very day. The capital city of Pongau is the quiet small community of St. Johann which, due its central location, is an ideal homebase for all your holiday adventures. Though also other towns such as Goldegg, St. Veit, Wagrain and Flachau were seemingly created for active holidays in the region.

Werfen: WITH ONE HIGHLIGHT AFTER ANOTHER

All kinds of exciting experiences await you in and around the idyllic village of Werfen. Here, two of the most spectacular excursion destinations in Europe are basically right outside your front door: On the one hand we have the World of Ice Giants, the world's biggest accessible ice cave fascinating visitors from around the globe. Meanwhile, enthroned on the far side of the valley, high atop a rocky outcropping, we find Hohenwerfen Castle. Once a proud fortification of the prince-archbishops, it later served as a film set for the Hollywood classic Where Eagles Dare. Today, you can also marvel at the spectacular bird-of-prey shows put on by the State Falconer, and enjoy a fascinating journey back through time with your whole family.
