Cathedral Museum, Chamber of Art and Curiosities
The museum in the Cathedral's South Oratory displays precious liturgical objects from the Cathedral Treasury as well as Gothic and Baroque paintings and sculptures from churches and monasteries across Salzburg province. The oldest and most important piece is the Rupertus Cross, created between 700 and 750 AD.
The prince-archbishops' Chamber of Art and Curiosities, reconstructed in 1974, is one of the few in Europe whose historical furnishings are still largely intact. The original showcases from the 17th century hold a wealth of astonishing objects and curiosities from art, nature and technology.
