GROSSGLOCKNER HIGH ALPINE ROAD

June 1 is all about muscle power and endurance. If you are well-trained and an early-riser, you can participate in the Glocknerkönig and cycle all the way up to the Edelweiß-Spitze.

On June 6, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road becomes part of the Kitzbühel Alpine Rally. This is a chance for fans of vintage cars, modern classics, and exotic vehicles to indulge their automotive passions to the fullest.

Vespa Alp Days in Zell am See is all about “tooling along” on two wheels . On June 7, participants in this rally for Vespa lovers will be riding up the Grossglockner together.

A more contemplative but no less atmospheric event follows on June 28: the big Glockner Pilgrimage.

DomQuartier Salzburg

Face to Face. Austrian Portraiture of the 19th Century is the title of the new special exhibition opening June 6 at DomQuartier Salzburg. It explores the fascinating transformation that portrait painting underwent in this period – from early commissions by nobles and rulers to the growing popularity of portraiture even among the middle classes. This exhibition is complemented by a diverse program of guided tours and engaging panel discussions.

HOHENSALZBURG FORTRESS

If you are looking to get some physical activity while catching the sunrise, we suggest joining the Pop-up Yoga session at Hohensalzburg Fortress on June 8. The group meets at 7:15 a.m. in the main courtyard.

To mark the summer solstice, a special guided tour (in German only) takes place at the fortress on June 20 at 7 p.m. You will hear fascinating stories about the fortress’s sundial along with traditions and superstitions associated with solstice.

HELLBRUNN PALACE PARK

True to its apt title Art in the Park, a series of rotating exhibitions will take place on the grounds of Hellbrunn Palace. From May to September, the INCONTRO project presents artistic encounters between Salzburg and Italy – exploring the connections between architecture, garden design, sculpture, nature, literature, and music – both past and present.

Mauterndorf CASTLE

Free admission and a festive atmosphere set the tone for the Feuer & Stimme international choral festival in St. Michael im Lungau this June. On June 14, a choir concert will take place at Mauterndorf Castle.

Hohenwerfen CASTLE

Step into the past at Hohenwerfen Castle as it brings history to life with The Uprising, a participatory live reenactment of the 1525 Salzburg Peasants’ Revolt. The performance begins at 6 p.m. on June 21.

GROSSGLOCKNER HIGH ALPINE ROAD

Running enthusiasts will find just what they have been looking for at the Grossglockner Mountain Run. From July 4 to 6, athletes will be pushing themselves to the limit on Austria’s highest mountain – with astounding stamina, team spirit, and stunning alpine views on full display.

MAUTERNDORF CASTLE

On July 5 and 6, the clang of swords and hammers will be echoing inside the walls of Mauterndorf Castle. The spectacular Medieval Festival promises an entertaining and exciting program certain to appeal to the whole family.

Hohensalzburg FORTRESS

“Je-der-mann!” echoes the cry of approaching Death through Hohensalzburg Fortress starting July 27. If you want to experience Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s play  (performed in German) within this fortress’s historic walls, we strongly urge purchasing your tickets early – only eight performances are scheduled in total. In case of bad weather, the performance will move inside to the Stiegl Keller.

Mauterndorf CASTLE

The Summer Cinema at Mauterndorf Castle on July 29 will transport you back to the 1960s. In 1965, the Beatles’ film Help! was partially shot on the ski slopes of Obertauern. This entertaining cultural artifact featuring the iconic British mop-tops screens at 8 p.m. in English with German subtitles.

Kaprun HIGH MOUNTAIN RESERVOIRS

A play tent, bouncy castle, art station, climbing tower, zip line, and intriguing insights into the power of water await visitors at the Kids’ Festival on August 3 from 10 a.m. And on this day, the lift ride up is free of charge for all youngsters under 15 years of age.

What is hidden inside the dam? What can families discover around the Mooserboden reservoir? These questions and more are answered during children’s tours offered every Tuesday and Thursday in July and August at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Tours are free for children up to age 15 and one accompanying adult.

Soaring through the air isn’t just for Peter Pan – anyone who is brave enough is welcome to give it a try. From July through September, the 100-meter Flying Fox zipline from the Höhenburg down to the dam is open to daredevils – free of charge every Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Hohensalzburg Fortress

Die Belagerung (The Siege) is a play by Peter Blaikner, scheduled to be presented on August 7 at Hohensalzburg Fortress to mark the 500th anniversary of the Peasants’ Revolt. Additional performances will be held at Hohenwerfen Castle, Mauterndorf Castle, and Kniepass Fortress.

On August 8, visitors to the Summer Cinema at Hohenwerfen Castle can enjoy The Fox (in German only), a film by Adrian Goiginger, in a unique and atmospheric setting. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., and the screening will go ahead regardless of weather conditions.

Salzburger OPEN-AIR MUSEUM

When it comes to blowing horns and banging drums, Salzburgers definitely know their stuff – and on August 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., they get to show off their skills to the general public. The Open-Air Museum turns into an open stage for spontaneous concerts and jam sessions. String, percussion, wind, and keyboard instruments are all welcome – unplugged, of course. Admission is free for anyone who brings along an instrument.
